Angelica Ross, Long-form Bio:

Born in Kenosha, WI but raised in Racine, Ross graduated high school when she was 17 and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin, Parkside to pursue a business degree. When living at home and attending school proved to be a challenge, Ross decided to enlist in the Navy and was soon deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. But with “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” still in full effect, Ross realized quickly that the Navy was not the place for her and after she was discharged, returned home to Wisconsin.

After leaving the Navy, Angelica realized she wanted to live her life truly and freely and began transitioning at age 19. She ended up in Boca Raton, FL where she got her real estate license and signed to a modeling agency, although they did not know she was trans at the time, but she booked commercials, runway, print work in jewelry catalogs and eventually ended up acting in a foreign film, Natale a Miami (Christmas in Miami), akin to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, which became a massive hit in Italy. Her hard work finally led to her becoming financially independent and able to afford her tuition to Florida Atlantic University where she could study theater, her passion since the fourth grade when she even learned how to play the piano by ear.

Since studying theater at Florida Atlantic University, Angelica has been featured in film, television, and live theatre. Her starring role in the Emmy Award-nominated short form series “Her Story,” received Special Recognition at the GLAAD Media Awards and her segment on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah was also honored with a GLAAD Award for Outstanding Talk Show Episode. Angelica combines her passion for acting with her skills as a producer in her newest endeavor and she has returned to the Executive Producer chair for the “King Ester” short-form web series with a team lead by Dui Jarrod and Caralene Robinson.

Ross is also the President of Miss Ross, Inc. and founder and CEO of TransTech Social Enterprises, an organization that helps people lift themselves out of poverty through technical training and digital work creating a social impact and bringing economic empowerment to marginalized communities and members. Ross was named “1st Foot Soldier of the Year” by Melissa Harris Perry in 2015. Dedicated to empowering trans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer people and allies with practical, career-ready skills, she has toured the country speaking to deliver her message to business leaders, universities, the Embassy of Uruguay and even the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.

One of the key events that led to her advocacy work as the founder of TransTech Social Enterprises occurred while she was living in Chicago. While there, Ross worked at the Trans Life Center as their employment coordinator overseeing a job readiness program where trans individuals would receive a safety and sanitation license to work in restaurants. While she felt the program was well intended, it was not teaching skills that afforded workers more options. In 2014, she launched TransTech Social Enterprises and moved to Washington, DC, where the Human Rights Campaign heard about her mission and provided office space at their headquarters completely free of charge.

Even through all of the different paths her life took her on, she continued acting, which was her ultimate passion. Starring in Emmy-nominated “Her Story” was the first time that she was openly trans and bringing her life experience to the role. After that, CBS network executives reached out to her and cast her on “Doubt,” without even having her submit for an audition, which led to her casting on “Claws” on TNT, and to having a meeting with Ryan Murphy where he opted to write the role of ‘Candy Abundance’ on “Pose” specifically for her. Angelica combines her passion for acting with her skills as a producer in her newest endeavor and she has returned to the executive producer chair for the “King Ester” short-form web series with Dui Jarrod and Caralene Robinson.

Angelica also continues to engage leaders both at home and abroad, teaching, entertaining, and consulting for organizational change that creates space for the rich experiences of trans people and people of color to speak, share their value, and create lasting success. Ross is now a celebrity ambassador to the 50th Anniversary Stonewall celebration, which will celebrate in June 2019 during New York City’s Pride. Previous celebrity ambassadors include Chelsea Clinton, Anna Wintour, Laverne Cox, Jussie Smollet and Phillip Picardi.

A devout Buddhist, Angelica walks with compassion and believes that all people have worth — it is only a matter of helping each person find it for themselves.
